Orca Coffee Table Update

Bryce Van Dyke, our 2010 CustomMade Design Challenge winner, has chosen CustomMade artisan Bill Amaya of Cimarron Lofting, Inc., to build his winning project, the Orca Coffee Table.  They’ve graciously agreed to give us a behind the scenes look at the design and building process and report on their progress.

Bryce sent us sketches for the table and described how he works with them:

“The process I go through is to hand draw a couple of versions on grid-scaled paper and then apply dimensions to the grid paper.  It is easier to hand draw, because it’s important for me to see different options.  I do a 3-D surface model of the design after I have chosen a preferred design.  I will probably make a few 3-D renderings to compare side by side.  It’s important to have several versions so I’m not massaging the same shape over and over.”
