Custom Made vs. Factory Made Chairs
Mike and I think there is a common idea that threads through every artist and art enthusiast; quality will forever reign over quantity. This idea is the back bone of why the custom made chair is far superior to those of the mass produced non-customizable persuasion. No matter what genre of art that you particularly enjoy, originality is the single most appreciated and respected aspect. Bottle this appreciation and respect into a timeless piece for your home furniture collection and you’ll have more than just a chair; you’ll have functional art customized to your artistic taste and emotion.
Factory made chairs are exactly that. Factory made. They follow a template and then are stamped out in rapid succession without an ounce of originality. Enter here the further complication of assembly. Factory made chairs almost always arrive as a puzzle to be put together, with minimal instructions, and quality now lessened further by a lack of craftsmanship. An uninspired creation will always render a cheaper price, of course; however will never render a sense of individuality, or pride. Not to mention that this “cheaper price” can still hit up to a 240 percent mark up. Lastly, factory made chairs do not provide the consumer with a sound investment in the future antiques of tomorrow, only a mere convenience for today; convenience marked: Requires Assembly.
In drastic comparison, however, custom made chairs provide everything that factory made chairs do not all under the simple heading of originality. Here are two of Mike and my favorites from CustomMade.
Safari Campaign Chair by Fine Ideas Furniture in Larkspur, CO.
Continuous Arm Windsor Chair by D.C. Nauman, Chairmaker and Cabinetmaker in East Stroudsburg, PA.
A custom made chair is an individual reflection of who the buyer is; as opposed to a factory made chair that’s purpose is to please the masses by being generic. Almost nothing generic is passed down through family generations, it doesn’t spark creative interest in a potential new client, and certainly nothing generic is ever considered an investment. Only the unique craftsmanship of a custom made chair, painstakingly created from an inspired artist, can turn heads, warm hearts, and provide you an art piece for your home, or office.
Step out of the masses and into individuality with a custom made chair today. Post your custom chair ideas on our CustomMade “Get it Made” job board and have artisans interested in your project contact you.
