“A Rack of Beer” – Custom Glassworks by Glass Mountain Studio
Have a passion for custom made glassware? Pool? Beer? CustomMade master glassblower Ed Schmid of Glass Mountain Studio in Bellingham, WA, created a functional custom glass sculpture that brings the three together: “A Rack of Beer” – handblown beer bottles.
In addition to creating whimsical custom glassworks and publishing books on glassblowing, Mr. Schmid has been homebrewing beer and mead for over twenty-two years and creating the glassware to store and serve his brews. The “Rack of Beer” project, he writes, was both challenging and fun. “Getting the right colors and numbers to match was the first big task. Next, creating the mold to blow the glass in was my second chore. Then finding a skilled woodworker to make the rack to display them in was my final challenge (thanks to my friend Carlos Reneer he came through!), and I do believe it came out well!”
This particular item is part of the artisan’s personal collection, but you can contact Glass Mountain Studio if you’d like a recreation or have your own design ideas for custom made glassware. You can also check out the varieties of beer that Mr. Schmid’s home brewery, Rain Maker Brewing Co., offers.
