The walnut tree produces a dark, rich lumber that is beautiful in furniture and flooring. With its naturally dark finish, walnut is also very hard. The grain in walnut is usually straight, tight and highly attractive. Walnut that is near the heartwood has a deeper color than the sapwood that is near the exterior of the tree.
