Haven’t heard of Small Business Saturday? American Express launched it in 2010 to get consumers to “shop small” during the busy shopping weekend following Thanksgiving. This year, it falls on November 26th.
This event is a chance to recognize and celebrate small businesses and to focus on directing more business to their stores during one of the most heavily shopped weekends of the year. Rhonda Abrams of USA Today says, “It’s a chance to show your support for small business, [and] encourage customers to patronize your business.”
Susan Sobbott, president of American Express Open says, ”Our hope is that Small Business Saturday becomes an iconic part of the American holiday shopping season, that it establishes itself on the heels of Black Friday and Cyber Monday and it becomes a tradition that you’re going to give some of your shopping dollars to small businesses.”
Consumers can use Small Business Saturday as a way to learn more about shopping small and to discover new favorite spots to frequent year-round. For small business owners, this is a great opportunity to get people excited about what you do, to build a following, and to generate sales.
