Stone Sculptures Realistic Enough To Eat

Using recognizable American pop culture in art never looked so delicious. Although it may look good enough to eat, I wouldn’t unless you want to lose several teeth in the process.

These extraordinary custom stone sculptures are part of the “Realism in Stone” collection by New York based artist Robin Antar. Her objective is to create a “virtual record of contemporary culture”. These realistic custom finds are not just representations of simple products, but depictions of certain experiences many people can relate to.

This lifelike peppermint patty was hand carved out of stone and then cast in stainless steel. The logo was sand blasted and then airbrushed on. This is a life size sculpture and looks like the real deal, except for the weight, it is, of course, much heavier.

M&M’s never looked so good! The candy bag is carved out of marble. The M&M was cut out of stone then cast in bright colors. The letter ‘M’ was silkscreened on to make them look true to life. This stone sculpture has similar properties to the actual product, but is much larger than an actual bag of M&M’s, standing 30″ tall!

And cookies and milk never looked so familiar. The plate was carved out of limestone and custom made oil stains were applied. The glass of milk was carved out of alabaster and acrylic. The Oreo’s cookies were cast in cast stone and painted with acrylics. This modern sculpture is definitely one that will have you licking your lips and hoping for some Oreo’s and milk.

It’s the attention to detail that makes these sculptures so incredibly lifelike. Their realistic nature and familiarity, make you want to impulsively reach out and grab them (and I’m convinced that when I look at them, I can actually smell and taste them). As Antar says, “this is more than just art imitading life, it’s art mirroring life”.
