Thank you so much for taking the time to post such a nice comment. I will pass your sentiment on to Payam. I can feel the pride you have in your custom piece and I love hearing that after years of use you love it as much as the first day you saw it.

Thank you Pedro, this is something I feel strongly about. I'm very committed to exploring the less obvious influences in our environments. A quote from my website:

"The objects that surround us at home and in the workplace have a subtle but profound effect on the quality of our lives, both physically and psychologically. Surroundings that are satisfying in function, to the eye, and to the touch, are satisfying to the soul."

Here's an example of an entryway piece that embraces some feng shui principles. In this home, the front door opened into a foyer with a solid wall 6 feet in front of the door. It made for an awkward and uncomfortable entrance, in feng shui lingo "blocking the flow of chi". The piece displays a Kuwaiti wedding dress embroidered with gold and jewels, a stunning bit of art, and has a mirrored back with glass front and sides. The entry was transformed. Interesting form and art welcomes the visitor, the mirrored back adds depth, opens up the space and it feel far less confining. The glass panels allow the play of light on the art and allow a partial view through the home reflected in the mirror. I regret I don't have a photo of the piece on site.

Thanks CustomMade,
I found this article to be a great read. I had a few custom pieces commissioned from Sarabi Studios a few years back (before they had their own brick and morter fabrication shop). It is good to know they are continuing to be recogized for innovation and quality. Still to this day, the linear bench and my dining table are the most talk about pieces in my home. Payem himself is an easy designer to work with, has great ideas, and a deep appreciation for craft.

Well said, Mr. Weersing. If you, or any makers, have pictures of feng shui informed pieces you've created that you'd like to share, please write a description of the piece and post it in a comment and be sure to add a picture by clicking on the link just below the "post comment" button.

I enjoyed this article, and the links to other feng shui discussions. More of this please. While I remain a bit skeptical of the ancient explanations of how the principles work, I cannot deny the effects that design, placement, color, and orientation of our spaces and objects have on us. I often refer to classical feng shui while designing a piece of furniture. How will it be used, where, what is the room like, what do you want it to do? If you can't buy the apparent mysticism in theory, accept that millennia of wisdom are at work here, and whatever the reason, it works.
