Custom Liturgical Furniture for Church Donations and Renovations

Does your house of worship need a renovation? Are you looking for donation ideas for your church, synagogue, or other religious institution? Custom liturgical furniture would be an enduring contribution that will meet the functional needs of the congregation and help foster a spiritual atmosphere.  Here are just a few examples of custom church furniture by CustomMade artisans who combine master craftsmanship with a sensitive understanding of the importance of their clients’ faith and fellowship and their need for sacred space.

With backgrounds in education and ministry and over twenty years experience in custom manufacturing, husband-and-wife team Steve Remmert and Chris Lord of Remmert Studios have built an outstanding reputation for their liturgical furnishings.  This tabernacle is one piece of a suite of furnishings commissioned for the retreat center of the Cenacle Sisters of Ronkonkoma, NY.

The base is solid cherry with hand carved detailing, the “flames” are hand-sculpted birch, and the tabernacle itself is spun brass.  For this suite, the Sisters wanted to incorporate circular shapes and the symbol of fire.  You can see the chapel with the completed pieces installed (including bronze door handles, a lecturn, and altar) in this video.

You can read more about the contemplation and construction process behind these pieces, and see more videos, in Steve’s series of blog posts on the Cenacle project.  If you have a church furniture project in mind, contact Steve and Chris and share your thoughts with them.

For a school for underprivileged children, woodworker Jeremy Kimchi created this Aron Kodesh, or ark for the Torah, with the motif of the twelve tribes of Israel.  He explains:

The idea is that though each person may come from a different background harmony and strength are achieved through unity.  In addition to the twelve sculpted human forms there are twelve supporting columns (six on each side), which represent the necessity of upholding the ideal all together.

Contact Jeremy and discuss your custom synagogue furniture ideas and inspirations.

The design for this cherry wood shrine for a Buddhist temple by Wildwood Construction was inspired by details from other shrines within the same Buddhist tradition.  Artisan Daniel McIntyre has over 30 years of woodworking experience.  Check out his CustomMade portfolio for examples of his custom yoga equipment and meditation furniture and get in touch with Daniel to discuss your own commission.

When you submit your liturgical furniture project through our CustomMade “Get it Made” job board, you have a chance not only to specify designs, styles, and materials but also to explain your congregation’s needs and traditions.  This is a good way to begin work on a church donation of furniture or custom renovation that will have a lasting practical and spiritual impact.
